Our Favorite Tree

This amazing white pine has been a beauty in our lives since purchasing the property twenty years ago.  From the lake we could always find our way home because it was one of the tallest trees on the north shore.  Unfortunately the March storm took its toll.  Huge limbs came down onto our roof, deck, yard and the tree was leaning dangerously over the house.

A kayak ride out on the water afforded this shot just before the tree was topped.  We have left the stump and plan to make a bench from it.  Sad day for our favorite tree!

I am sorry about your tree- you will miss looking at it but if you still have a bench, that is something. You never said what treasures you found at that estate sale? I go to estate sales when they are close by even though we certainly don’t need anymore stuff. Last time I found a good cast iron stew pot – I already made a bean and vegetable stew in it.

I'm sorry you lost a favorite tree, Pat! I know how heartbreaking that is as I had to cut down a 80 year old linden tree in my backyard a few years ago as it was leaning after a storm. I miss seeing it and all the birds that used to sit in it.

What a shame - we've had to have quite a few trees cut down on our own property here in England, and although it means more wood for the woodburners, it's still a shame.

It is surprising how many neighbors have stopped to ask after or offer their condolences about "the tree." When the sap stops flowing we will attempt to count the rings. She was perhaps the tallest tree along this shore of the lake.
