Paint Samples

It's time to paint the interior of our home.  The neutral peachy off white is sooooo boring after 15 years.  Although I painted the kitchen and dining room red a few years ago, it is time to update that as well.  So many choices and nuances of putty, sage, lilac.  I employed a delightful young man ~ a starving artist, as it were ~ with the skill and sense to pull all my chosen colors together, lighten them up considerably... and now we are in the process.

Two Bananas

Two overly ripe bananas inspired this banana cake with penuche frosting.  The recipes for both are from my 1960 vintage Betty Crocker Cookbook.  It was a gift from my neighbor, Peggy.  She taught me a lot about cooking over the years.

If baking a cake, why not bake a pie or two, too?  It's windy and snowy here for a couple of days and a turkey pot pie seemed as though it would go nicely with the cake.  I like a generous amount of veggies in my pot pies and peel, chop and simmer with a few spices.  A bonus was an extra bit of vegetable stock for soup later.  I make a white sauce, thin it with veggie stock if needed, then add a topping of regular pie crust.  The smaller one in the foil container will go in the freezer for another day.

Need Eggs?

Here's my granddaughter Ruby who has just turned one year old.  Her neighborhood sidewalks are snow-covered and the Co-op Natural Food store is a short half-block from home.  This makes getting eggs lots of fun.  And since they are needed for baking a batch of brownies, it's all the better!

Wear the right clothes and enjoy winter!
